I debated whether or not I wanted to do one of those year-end posts that I imagine everyone and their best friend will be putting up today, but ultimately I decided that 2012 was too big of a year for me to not take some time to reflect over what’s happened in my life during the past 12 months.
To say that I’m in a completely different place right now than I was on December 31, 2011 would qualify as the understatement of the year for me. So much has changed in my life and who I am as a person this year.
I moved out of my parent’s house and to Chicago.
I went to not one, not two, not three, not four, but five weddings, two of which were on the same day.
Over the course of hundreds of miles, I changed from a girl who runs to a Runner.
I started to blog regularly (this past week excluded 😉 ) and discovered both the online and real life community that comes along with blogging.
Last year I said 2011 was the biggest year of my life up to that point. After everything that’s happened this year, though, I’d have to say 2012 takes that crown. I have no idea what 2013 holds for me–being out of school takes away a lot of the clear direction of where my life is headed–but I hope that this time next year, I’ll be able to come back to this post and see that regardless of all my uncertainty, things always have a way of working themselves out.
What’s changed for you this year?
Sounds like you had an awesome year! I finished school (…for now…) in 2012 too and adjusting to the “real” world has been a big change for me. I also trained for my first triathlon.. woohoo!
Haha yeah, I suppose I don’t know that I’m done with school forever forever…but I’m definitely done for quite some time. I completely agree that adjusting to the real world has been a big change, but for me it was definitely a worthwhile one!
I have to say I am with you on that. I graduated college, started my first job, moved somewhere alone. 2012 hopefully will be surpassed by 2013 though… am I right?
You are definitely right 🙂 ❤ I've got faith in 2013's ability to be good.
What a great year for you! I had a lot of changes this year – finishing graduate school and moving to Chicago. It was in insanely challenging year for me… but I know I grew a lot and for that I am proud.
I think challenging years are definitely the ones that make us grow the most. A lot of the transitions I made this year were really tough but they also all more than paid off in the end.
I’m glad you did this post. I think it’s always good to see how far you’ve come and important to check in from time to time. I got married this year! It seems like a lot has changed for you as well.
Thanks! Congratulations on your marriage — that’s wonderful!
Each year, at this time in our lives/our age, seems to be an ever better year at least for me. I also think it is great to look back and reflect on the year gone by and all that has happened. Growth and change. A whole lot has changed for me this year. I need to think more about it too, but the biggest was my move to Chicago.
I really appreciate you saying that, because I’ve got to be honest: I’ve been a little nervous heading into 2013 because it seems like 2012 set such a high bar. Thanks for some perspective!
