1. Did you notice on Tuesday when I mentioned I had plans with a friend?
I went to the Coldplay concert on Tuesday, and I’m still reeling from its awesomeness. Before the show, Chris Martin said someone had told him we’d be the best crowd they’d ever played for (which I’m sure happens at every stop), and in return he said they’d give us, “the best f-cking concert of your lives.” He wasn’t kidding.
Granted, I haven’t been to *that* many concerts in my life–between Taste of Lincoln Ave. and Coldplay, I’ve actually been to more shows in the past two weeks than I had been to in the past four years–but the show was mindblowing. Chris Martin was so down-to-earth with his crowd interactions that I felt more like I was at a party with 20,000 of my closest friends than at a stadium concert.
I couldn’t possibly pick a favorite song, though Paradise, Every Teardrop is a Waterfall, Princess of China and Fix You might be tied for first. Oh, and The Scientist. See? Impossible to pick. My favorite moment of the show, though, is a no-brainer:
How cool is that?! It looked even cooler when you were there. When we got to the concert, everyone got a Xyloband, which lit up and/or flashed during different songs throughout the concert. There is nothing like 20,000 Xylobands illuminating the United Center. It was simply stunning, and every time our bands lit up, I grinned like a fool.
Takeaway lesson: if you have the opportunity to go to the Mylo Xyloto tour and consider yourself even a casual Coldplay fan, GO. It was worth every single penny.
2. NPR recently released a list of the Top 100 Young Adult novels, a list that’s right up my alley. I’ve actually only read 17 books on the list, which really surprised me since I’ve worked my way through a significant portion of the YA section at my home library. But now I have a long reading list! Also, it is a cryin’ shame that Divergent was ranked #19, ahead of several Sarah Dessen books, but, even worse, ahead of If I Stay. I read If I Stay right before Divergent (keep your eyes peeled next week for my Rogue Review of both If I Stay and its sequel, Where She Went), and anyone who thinks Divergent is better than If I Stay is crazy. Gayle Forman’s storyline and writing talent is light years ahead of Veronica Roth’s. Cryin. Shame.
Pinned it, obviously.
Also, my comment on her post about this warranted a “Best comment ever” reply, which just made my life, because Jessica’s blog is the jam. Therefore, she is also the jam. Even though I’ve been doing this whole blogging thing for over a year now (whoa!), there are still a lot of bloggers that I look up to as the “cool kids” of blogging, if you will, and Jessica’s definitely one of them.
What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
How many books from NPR’s list have you read? Any ones you were surprised didn’t make the cut? Deb Caletti was shafted. Fact. Honey, Baby, Sweetheart and The Nature of Jade are two of the best books I’ve ever read and totally should’ve been on the list.
